History

Thibodaux was initially settled by the French during the 18th century. The city was incorporated in 1830 and called Thibodauxville, in honor of Henry Thibodaux who also provided the land for the settlement. He served as the acting governor of Louisiana in 1824. The name was changed to Thibodeaux in 1838 and in 1918; the current spelling of Thibodaux was adopted.
